HOUSE IMPROVEMENT 101 |
|
Nothing is permanent in this world. Everything will surely come to an end after a certain period of time. Here we are not just talking about humans and animals. In fact it goes for every valuable yet life-less things too. Say you’ve bought a brand new house, but after years pass by, it “will” still have to undergo repairing and redecorating to be in tip top condition. Well, this shouldn’t be a surprising fact for you because this is how it goes: When you are least expecting things to stop working that is the moment when you actually need to replace something in your home. In this article, let’s take a look at the life expectancy of your valuable home items. Roof The roof’s life expectancy will completely depend on the area you are living in. The other factors that will contribute to it are building design, maintenance work and materials that were used to build it. Research suggests that a tile or slate roof can sustain normal climate changes for around 50 years. On the other hand wooden roofs last for like 30-35 years and fibre roofs have life expectancy of about 25-27 years. So, before buying a new house, make sure you know the history. Heating Devices If your heating devices are working for more than 10 years, then you must consider yourself lucky. Like any machinery, even heating devices have an expiry date where you have no other option than to replace them. Expensive electric bills, cycling issues, continuous adjustments of the thermostat, furnace noises are just a few signs that will tell you that you need to replace your heating device. Devices like water heater, designer radiator, towel radiators, etc. usually have a life span of 8-10 years. Flooring If you have proper wooden flooring and are maintaining it, then it can last for more than 100 years. On the other hand, vinyl flooring can last for around 40-50 years and if you wish to add 10 more years to its life span, then consider using a carpet. The main factors that affect the life expectancy of flooring are maintenance, foot traffic and the type of tiles you are using. Toilet You cannot come up with an average lifetime for a toilet. But there are some signs that might tell you that it’s time to find a replacement. When you happen to rebuild the guts on a regular basis, it means that your toilet has a clogged drainage. This is reason enough for you to understand that you either need to repair some components or simply get it replaced. No matter what the situation, make sure to contact an expert for help. Dishwasher Like any other appliance, you can’t be sure of the lifespan of a dishwasher. Similar to heating devices, even this has a life expectancy of approximately 10 years. It is not necessary that your dishwasher can handle everything you are forcing on it. You need to clean it regularly and follow the manual to keep it up and running for a longer period of time. Well, now that you know even your favourite flooring design won’t last longer, what are you waiting for? Do not waste even a minute and start taking care of your essentials now to increase their lifespan by a year or two!
